May is for Mom

Activities, Blog, Dining, The Inns // Alex Schloop // 4 April 2018

Mothers support us, care for us, and bring out the best in us all year long. This May, we’re extending Mother’s Day to a month-long celebration filled with activities and outings designed to help you make memories with mom that will last a lifetime. These are just a few of our favorite ways to make your visit to Aurora this May an extra-special getaway.

1. Schedule a Restorative Massage

Whether you sooth your soul with a powerful healing session, strengthen your body with an invigorating host stone massage, or calm your senses with an aromatherapy massage, the treatments proudly provided by Rasa Spa in the Loft at the Inns of Aurora will bring you balance, awareness, and peace. Review our treatment menu and call us at 315.364.8888 to make your reservation today.

2. Take a Painting Lesson

Create an acrylic painting on canvas! Instructor Jessica Stanton of Yes! will lead you through a painting experience that will leave you feeling accomplished. We’ll supply everything you need to have a creative adventure. No prior experience is necessary. This two-hour workshop requires pre-registration. This workshop is $15 for Inns of Aurora guests and is available to the public for $25. Wine and beer are available for cash purchase. Register today.

3. Explore Aurora

Join a tour guide from the Inns of Aurora for a one-hour stroll through the Village of Aurora. Topics will vary and include highlights of architecture, history, the art collection, and rare and interesting trees and other natural wonders. Tours depart from the Aurora Inn lobby and are free for Inns of Aurora guests. Register today.

4. Throw Pottery

Join potter Robert Warren in the Lakeside Room and try your hand at throwing a simple piece of pottery or watch pottery being turned on his wheel. Take the opportunity to chat with Robert about his craft, and peruse his pop-up pottery shop (cash only). Hand-made pottery makes a wonderful Mother’s Day gift, as does a hands-on experience at the wheel. Pre-register for a 20-minute pottery throwing lesson or simply drop-in a watch anytime between 1:00 p.m. and 4:00 p.m. Register today.

5. Enjoy a Lakeside Meal

Whether you join us for our special Mother’s Day meal or stop by for breakfast, brunch, lunch, or dinner, there’s always something new and delicious on our dining room’s menus — especially in spring! View our current menus and reserve your table today.

6. Learn About Spring Herbs

Join Jesse Ball, herbalist and Licensed Massage Therapist, for a two-hour workshop on spring herbs that help detoxify the body and digest and nourish from the inside out. Recieve information about both the body and plants and delve into the anatomy and physiology of the body systems and organs. Learn how to support the body’s systems and organs to optimal functioning with the use of three herbs readily available locally in the wild. Discussion about the herbs will include name and identification of each plant, its constituents and medicinal uses, and how to source and use the plant including preparations and dosages. This class is open to guests of the Inns of Aurora for $20 per person and the general public for $40. Pre-registration by Monday, May 7 by 11:00 p.m. is required. Register today.

7. Taste Finger Lakes Wine

Join Erin McElhinney, Wine Director and Aurora Inn Dining Room Manager, as she takes you on a wine tasting adventure through the Finger Lakes — all without ever having to leaving your barstool. During this workshop, you’ll sample Finger Lakes wines and learn about their unique characteristics and the types of foods that they pair well with. All you need to bring is a curious mind and a ready palate! This tasting is free for guests of the Inns of Aurora — register today.

8. Make a Custom Wellness Blend

Join Laura Coburn, Director of Serenity at the Inns of Aurora, to blend your own tea, make a healthy spice blend, create a fragrant sachet from a variety of dried flowers, or make a personalized essential oil roll-on — any of which make great gifts for mom or to give yourself some mothering. Workshops are free for Inns of Aurora guests — register today.

9. Visit MacKenzie-Childs

In the spring, the gardens and grounds at MacKenzie-Childs come to life with bountiful blooms. Visit the Chicken Palace and say hello to the Highland Cattle before touring the whimsical Farmhouse. Make sure to stop into the shop and select some favorite pieces to bring home!

10. Quiet Your Mind

Melt into Mondays with Julie Hall, RYT 200. This class is created to move you into poses which help to strengthen the body and focus the mind. You will be encouraged to journey through your practice and ease into meditation where you will be guided on a journey to a place of stillness and peace. Mindfulness will continue as you come to rest in savasana. Classes are free for Inns of Aurora guests — register today.
